MIT Expansion Tanks

What is the Expansion Tanks?

Expansion tanks are plumbing equipment that provides pressure control and water support to the plumbing system.

The average water temperature in systems that provide domestic hot water in residence and office is 80°C. The inlet water temperature accepted as 10°C. In this situation, temperature of the water passing through the system constantly changes between 10°C-80°C. The specific volume of the water is also changing depands of the temperature. The expansion tanks are used to balance the expanding water volume as it heats up.

There is 2 types of expansion tanks; open expansion tanks and closed expansion tanks.

Open Expansion Tanks

Open expansion tanks operate open to the atmosphere. Open expansion tanks protect the system by preventing the pressure from rising above the atmosphere pressure.

Closed Expansion Tanks

Closed Expansion tanks are used in the system with a monometer and safety valve where open expansion tanks can not be placed or the higher capacity needed.

Things to Consider in Selection of Expansion Tanks

  • Capacity (in liters)
  • Height of the place to be used
  • Compressive strength
  • Auxiliary equipment to work with expansion tank

How are the Expansion Tank(Hydrophore Tank) Price Calculated?

Expansion tanks price are calculated according to the criterias such as capacity, high of the place to be used, ressistance to pressure, type of the tank.
